Containment Quality Associates Ltd. has been responsible for the design of more than 50 landfill and landfill cells for hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.
Geotechnical consultancy for multi-storey development, Russia: CQA provided advice concerning the suitability of locally available geotechnical investigation and laboratory analysis techniques for the design of foundations for a very high tower. The work also involved a preliminary assessment of ground conditions, recommendations for further works and assessing the correlation between Russian and UK geotechnical parameters.
Design of dewatering and foundations for a new dry dock, Kazakhstan: CQA provided technical during the site investigation for a 20000 square metre dry dock. The main issues were dewatering during construction and hydraulic uplift during operations. In addition to overseeing borehole logging, CQA designed, supervised and analysed pumping tests to determine the hydrogeological conditions and potential construction risks.
Al-Fujairah, UAE: Design, construction management and testing of a 1,250 m3/hr wellfield, involving the supervision and analysis of pumping tests, and numerical modelling of composite drawdown. The drilling of the production wells was also supervised. The project was extended to include monitoring the operational wellfield and undertaking work-over maintenance as required.
Ascension Island: Project management, feasibility study, design and technical oversight of the construction of a ten-well wellfield to supply saline water for power station cooling, fire-fighting and desalination purposes. The initial work included satellite image interpretation, geological mapping, geophysics and groundwater modelling. The construction work was carried out in joint venture and included investigation drilling, well drilling and pump testing.
Lancashire, UK: A major programme of rock and soil slope stability calculations for a motorway widening scheme including review of site investigation data and execution of ground truth geomorphological mapping. A range of manual and computer techniques were used to derive design parameters, verify data and produce results. The study involved back analyses of past failures to confirm design parameters. The work was carried out for as an independent evaluation of the work of the main contractor.
Saudi Arabia: Design of groundwater management system for the construction of a major soccer stadium. The project involved the design of a temporary wellpoint dewatering system and a permanent groundwater collection facility with a pump station, a 2.5 km long forcemain and an outfall to the Arabian Gulf. The assignment also included the preparation of the contract documents and construction drawings.
Canada: Mapping and evaluation of reservoir margin stability under rapid drawdown conditions for a dam project.
UK: Project Geotechnical Consultant for several highway construction schemes.
Republic of Ireland: Project Geotechnical Consultant for several highway construction schemes.
Hong Kong: Project management for the monitoring of slopes and retaining walls for the Architectural Office of the Hong Kong government. More than 900 slopes and walls were inspected on a regular basis to identify those requiring further investigation and remedial works
